It's about time...

When we first started our small business, our babies were still babies. We were only prepared to work in the business part-time, and therefore our expectations about how much we would earn (like nothing in the early days) and what we could achieve were always linked back to how many working hours we had to physically commit to the business. We did a time audit.

Time is probably one of the most important factors. When you’re juggling a family and a small business, it’s very easy to burn out.

How to create an ideal customer profile and why your business absolutely needs one.

It's fair to say that here at Two Girls and a Laptop we are passionate about customer profiling. We want you to not only know exactly who your perfect customer is, but also know everything you can about them - with good reason, so read on.

Your 'ideal customer' is a semi-fictitious person who is most likely to buy your product or service. The ideal customer profile (also called an avatar or persona) is a bunch of demographic and psychographic data that you create, to help you to intimately understand as much as you can about them.

5 Podcasts you need to listen to right now

So, I'm loving this podcast thing. I can listen to them when I'm on the school run, driving between work appointments, when I'm hanging out the washing, and even when I'm doing some mindless scrolling. Some days I feel like listening to something a little light (Hamish & Andy always give me a giggle) and sometimes I go a little dark (The Teachers Pet will do the trick) but most of the time, it's when I consume all the cool, witty, business banter and inspiration that us Small Business folk need.

So, in the interest of 'sharing' with our tribe, I thought I'd pop down a few of my faves...just in case you are looking for inspiration, so here are 5 podcasts you need to listen to right now.

Lessons learned as we close out the financial year.

As the financial year closes out, business owners are in a great position to review performance over the past 12 months.

On top of reviewing financial data we also suggest looking at other aspects of your business, for example your analytics can reveal which lead generation pipe worked best for you. Its a great time to make some strategic decisions to help your business grow and expand your net profit.

The end of financial year also marks a year in business for Two Girls and a Laptop. Jacqui takes some time to reflect on some of the lessons we’ve learnt over the past year.

Is it time to outsource?

Have you ever spent 10 hours trying to work something out for yourself, to then turnaround and pay someone to do it anyway? We have. Multiple times in fact. We would love to say that with 'hindsight' we would have gone straight to outsourcing it - however, we get it, for small business this is ALWAYS a learning.

We like to think we coined the phrase 'multi-disciplined VA' - when in actual fact, we are sure we didn't - but for those that weren't aware,  not all virtual assistants were created equal. You may have noticed a significant rise in the amount of virtual assistants popping up on your social feed spruiking their wares, and like us this might have sparked a very keen interest into how you can offload some stuff, so you've got more time to work on other stuff!

After meeting Karen Vivarelli (aka. Karen the VA) online, we were keen to interview her to provide some tips and also insights for our community on how a VA can support small business.

Creating Connections: with Stevie Dillon from "Stevie Says Social"

"Social media for service-based businesses is about connecting with people who are likely to one day do business with you (aka your ideal clients), and then consistently developing a relationship with them over time. If you’re chasing followers at any cost, there’s a good chance you’ll employ shady tactics and end up with bots, follow/unfollows on Insta and/or followers that aren’t engaged because they followed on a like ladder or similar.
