5 Podcasts you need to listen to right now

Two Girls and a Laptop. Blog. 5 Podcasts you need to listen to now.

Jax was the first to join the 'podcast' frenzy, and she very quickly convinced me that I need to jump on board the 'podcast' train, because, it's easy.

I don't know about you, but I find it very difficult these days to consume any media other than from my phone. By the time I've closed my laptop and switched off my mobile phone, I'm exhausted. The age old art of 'reading a book' before bed has been sacrificed for catching up on the latest episode of 'The Handmaids Tale' (BTW, WTF!) - or whatever is currently released on Netflix. (Side note: I love reading a physical book, and when I'm on holidays I absolutely devour all the books I possibly can, and I promise myself that I will continue when I 'get back to normal life' but ummm....life happens).

So, I'm loving this podcast thing. I can listen to them when I'm on the school run, driving between work appointments, when I'm hanging out the washing, and even when I'm doing some mindless scrolling. Some days I feel like listening to something a little light (Hamish & Andy always give me a giggle) and sometimes I go a little dark (The Teachers Pet will do the trick) but most of the time, it's when I consume all the cool, witty, business banter and inspiration that us Small Business folk need.

So, in the interest of 'sharing' with our tribe, I thought I'd pop down a few of my faves...just in case you are looking for inspiration, so here are 5 podcasts you need to listen to right now.

1. The Tim Ferris Show.(Episode #269): The 3 Critical Rules of Branding.
Tim articulates how understanding your 'ideal customer' is sooooooo important. He's beating to the sound of our drum, but he really does give some great insights into why and what it can do for your business. It's a must.

2. Lady Startup:  Lizzy Abegg: Spell & The Gypsy Collective.
It's no secret that I'm a huge Spell fan. My wardrobe can attest to this, however, I've followed these women through their business journey, and it was great to hear directly from Lizzy over how far they've come. She talks about 'getting better' not 'getting bigger' and it really struck a chord with me.

3. Stevie Says Social: Instagram Hashtags | How to Find the Right Hashtags for Your Business in 2018.
Ok, this is a practical one. This 20 minute podcast is bursting with real, practical & good advice on how to use Hashtags. It's possibly one of the most underestimated tactics in Social Media Land and we often recommend this one to our clients because no-one can explain it better than our soul sister, Stevie.

4. Heart, Soul & Hustle with Zach Spuckler, Episode 098:  What to do when your FB Ads won't convert.
Facebook Ads are affordable and effective when you get them right, but what do you do when they're not converting?  Jax is a big fan of Zach and his podcasts and this is a great quick 20 min podcast where Zach gives you his TOP TIPS towards a good strategy - cause no-one likes to waste the bucks on this stuff.

5. I Don't Know How She Does It: Mia Freedman.
This one is definitely from the archives, in fact, I think it was back in 2015, however, I often go back and listen to it in those times when I'm feeling a little full of Mum guilt. Mia is the powerhouse behind the media group, Mamamia and she shares in this 'a day in her life', how she manages her anxiety, the juggle of motherhood + running a business - and generally, it just makes you feel like you're doing OK. And we all want to feel like that don't we.

Oh, and if you're looking for more Small Biz inspiration and would like to listen to our 'wise words', you can hear us both appearing on the Stevie Says Social Podcast, and Socialette Podcast with Steph Taylor. We absolutely loved the experiences, and could have talked for days, in fact, we're on the hunt to chat with more people we loved it so much!

We'd love for you to share any of your faves in the comments too, don't be shy!
Until next time....
